My great great grandfather, Jeremiah Hand Shaw was a photographer in Philadelphia with a studio on Arch Street circa 1879. My interest in photography began at a young age. I have been taking pictures for over forty years. I began taking pictures of historic sites and buildings. After earning a BFA in Communication Design, I became a photography editor at Backpacker, Cross Country Skier and Adventure Travel Magazines. I was the photography director at Bicycling and Mt. Bike Magazines for another ten years. I have spent a lifetime learning what makes a great picture. Wearing many hats is common in the publishing world and writing came easily to me. I began working on small stories for local publications. Four years ago I signed a contract for my first book.
I am also accepting new assignments. |

What makes a good photograph? Many people are afraid to ask the question. I encourage my clients to ask questions. There are some basic principles of photography: Composition- does this look better here or there? Light and shadow--does the light enhance the bride's eyes, smile, or dress? Color saturation and hue-- can the photographer control and manipulate these for effect? (both in camera and digitally after the shoot)
There are many other considerations when selecting a photographer. I would be happy to share my knowledge and use it to make the great pictures for you. Please call me to learn more.
